Permanent
Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is Alberta's economic immigration program. It nominates foreign workers, international graduates, entrepreneurs, and farmers for Canadian permanent residence based on Alberta's labour market needs. The program is run jointly by the Government of Alberta and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). AAIP operates 8 streams: 4 streams for workers and 4 streams for entrepreneurs.
Effective April 7, 2026, Alberta charges a CAD 135 Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) fee. Worker stream candidates create a WEOI in the AAIP portal, pay the fee within 24 hours, and enter a 12-month selection pool. Only invited candidates can submit a full application. The Alberta Express Entry Stream is aligned with the federal Express Entry pool and includes dedicated pathways for healthcare, technology, and law enforcement occupations, with the standard +600 CRS federal bonus on nomination.

Application Process
How to Apply for Alberta Advantage Immigration Program: Step-by-Step Process
Choose the Right AAIP Stream
Decide whether you are applying through a worker stream (Alberta Express Entry, Alberta Opportunity, Rural Renewal, or Tourism and Hospitality) or an entrepreneur stream (Rural Entrepreneur, Graduate Entrepreneur, Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur, or Farm). Worker stream candidates must use the Worker EOI; entrepreneur streams have their own EOI processes.
Take a Language Test and Get an ECA
Take an IRCC-approved language test (IELTS, CELPIP, TEF Canada, TCF Canada, or Pearson Test of English Core) and obtain an Educational Credential Assessment for any foreign credentials. Aim for the highest possible score in your stream's language test.
Submit and Pay for a Worker Expression of Interest
Worker stream candidates must submit a Worker EOI in the AAIP portal and pay the CAD 135 WEOI fee within 24 hours. You will be scored against AAIP selection draws and only invited candidates can submit a full application.
Receive an Invitation and Submit Your AAIP Application
If invited, you will receive an email from AAIP inviting you to apply to a specific stream. Submit your application through the AAIP portal with all required documents (language results, employer declaration, dependants authorization, etc.).
Pay the Application Fee Within 24 Hours
Pay the AAIP application fee in the portal: CAD 1,500 for worker stream applications (entrepreneur stream fees vary — see alberta.ca). Fees must be paid within 24 hours of submitting your complete application or your application will be cancelled. The fee is non-refundable and required whether or not a nomination certificate is issued.
Receive Provincial Nomination
If your application is approved, AAIP issues a nomination certificate. For Alberta Express Entry Stream nominations, the certificate adds 600 CRS points to your federal Express Entry profile, virtually guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in the next federal draw.
Apply to IRCC for Federal Permanent Residence
Submit your federal permanent residence application to IRCC. For Alberta Express Entry Stream nominations, update your Express Entry profile and accept the federal ITA within 60 days. For other AAIP streams, submit your PR application directly to IRCC. Pay the federal fee of CAD 1,525 per adult plus biometrics.
Land in Canada and Settle in Alberta
After IRCC approval, you receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and PR visa. Land in Canada to activate PR status and settle in Alberta. Federal processing typically takes 7 months for Express Entry-aligned PNP or 13 months for base PNP applications.
Alberta Advantage Immigration Program remains one of Canada's most active provincial nominee programs, but the first step for worker stream candidates now includes a paid Worker Expression of Interest. Your eligibility depends on the AAIP stream, your Alberta job offer or community endorsement, and whether you have an active federal Express Entry profile for the Alberta Express Entry Stream.
Review every requirement for your chosen AAIP stream before paying the Worker EOI fee or submitting an entrepreneur Expression of Interest. AAIP has sole discretion in selecting candidates and there is no guarantee of an invitation. Use the official Alberta updates, fee schedule, and processing pages as the final authority before paying fees.
