A Canada PR visa gives you permanent resident status, allowing you to live, work, and study anywhere in Canada. PR status is not citizenship, but you may apply for citizenship after meeting the physical-presence requirement.
Common routes include Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs, family sponsorship, business immigration, Atlantic Immigration Program, and rural or francophone pilots. The right pathway depends on your age, education, work experience, language scores, job offer, family ties, and province target.
There is no fixed CRS score. Cut-offs change by draw type, but general draws often need very high scores, while category-based or PNP-backed draws can be different. A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points and usually makes an ITA highly likely.
Express Entry commonly targets about 6 months after AOR, but real timelines can run closer to 6-9 months. PNP, family sponsorship, and business immigration can take longer because they include extra provincial, sponsorship, or business-review steps.
For Federal Skilled Worker, the minimum is CLB 7, equal to IELTS General 6.0 in each band. CLB 9 or higher is much stronger for CRS because it unlocks valuable skill-transferability points. French test scores can add more points.
The amount depends on family size and is updated by IRCC each year. For 2026, a single FSWP or FSTP applicant needs CAD 14,495. CEC applicants and some applicants with valid job offers may be exempt. Bank balances and fixed deposits work; property and jewellery do not.
Yes. You must declare your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children, even if they are not accompanying you. Undeclared family members can create serious sponsorship problems later. Accompanying family members must pass medical and background checks.
A PNP lets a province nominate candidates who match local labour-market needs. Express Entry-linked nominations add 600 CRS points, while non-Express Entry streams move through a separate federal PR process after provincial approval.
Core documents include passports, language test results, ECA, proof of funds, work reference letters, police certificates, medical exam, photos, and civil documents. PNP applicants also need their nomination documents. Non-English or non-French documents need certified translations.
After landing with COPR, you become a permanent resident and later receive a PR card. To keep PR status, you must usually be in Canada for at least 730 days in every 5-year period. PR can be lost for residence breaches, serious criminality, or misrepresentation.
