Canada Express Entry is an online system used by IRCC to process permanent residence applications from skilled workers. It manages three federal programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Candidates are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and invited to apply through regular draws.
Express Entry is designed for skilled workers, tradespeople, and those with Canadian work experience. Applicants must meet program-specific requirements for language, work experience, and education. IRCC processes 80% of complete applications within 6 months. This makes it one of the fastest pathways to Canadian permanent residency.

Application Process
How to Apply for Canada Express Entry: Step-by-Step Process
Determine Which Program You Qualify For
Check eligibility for FSW, FSTP, or CEC based on your work experience, language scores, and education. You can be eligible for more than one program simultaneously. IRCC considers your highest eligible score.
Take a Language Test
Book and complete an approved language test. For English: IELTS General Training, CELPIP, or PTE Core. For French: TEF Canada or TCF Canada. Aim for CLB 9+ across all four abilities to maximise your CRS score.
Get Your Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)
Have your foreign educational credentials assessed by a designated ECA organization (WES, ICAS, etc.) if you completed education outside Canada. Processing takes 4-8 weeks - start early.
Create Your Express Entry Profile
Submit your online profile through your IRCC secure account. Enter personal information, education, language ability, and work experience. IRCC calculates your CRS score and places you in the Express Entry pool. Your profile is valid for 12 months.
Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)
Wait for a draw. IRCC conducts rounds of invitations approximately every two weeks. If your CRS score meets or exceeds the draw cutoff, you receive an ITA. You then have 60 days to submit a complete permanent residence application.
Prepare and Upload Documents
Gather all supporting documents including passport, language results, ECA, work experience proof, police clearances, and settlement funds.
Pay Government Fees and Provide Biometrics
Pay processing fees (CAD 1,525 for principal applicant) and biometrics fee (CAD 85). Complete a medical examination with an IRCC-approved panel physician and provide biometrics at a designated collection centre.
Receive Decision and Land in Canada
IRCC targets processing 80% of complete applications within 6 months. If approved, you receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and a PR visa (if outside Canada) to complete your landing.
Understanding the Canada Express Entry requirements is essential to avoid delays or rejections. Each program - FSW, FSTP, and CEC - has specific eligibility conditions and documentation requirements. Review these carefully before creating your profile.
