Federal Skilled Trades Program — common questions

FSTP stands for the Federal Skilled Trades Program — one of the three streams under Canada's Express Entry system. It is designed for skilled tradespeople with at least 2 years of work experience in an eligible NOC trade occupation. Applicants do not need a degree; a valid job offer or provincial certificate of qualification is required instead.
Yes. The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is sometimes referred to as the Express Entry skilled trades stream or the federal skilled trades class. All three terms refer to the same IRCC immigration program managed under the Express Entry system.
Eligible occupations fall under NOC major groups 72 (excl. 726), 73, 82, 83, 92, 93 (excl. 932), minor group 6320, and unit group 62200. This covers construction trades, industrial and maintenance trades, equipment operators, natural resources workers, and food service trades such as cooks and chefs.
FSTP-specific draws typically have minimum CRS cut-offs in the range of 260–280, which is significantly lower than all-program draws (often 480+). Only candidates who are eligible for FSTP compete in these draws, making it easier to receive an Invitation to Apply even with a lower CRS score.
