FAQ
Common questions. Clear answers.
A Canada Visitor Visa, or TRV, lets visa-required travellers visit Canada for tourism, family visits, or business meetings. It is not a work or study permit. CBSA makes the final entry decision at the border.
Most visitors are allowed to stay up to 6 months per entry, unless CBSA gives a different date. Visa validity and stay duration are different: even a 10-year visa does not allow a 10-year continuous stay.
A TRV costs CAD 100 per person, plus CAD 85 for biometrics. Family biometrics can be capped at CAD 170 when eligible. A Super Visa has the same basic IRCC fee, while a Transit Visa is free.
Processing times change with IRCC workload, biometrics, medical requests, and file completeness. Check IRCC's live processing-time tool for India before booking travel, and avoid non-refundable tickets until your visa is approved.
IRCC may issue a multiple-entry visa valid up to 10 years or until passport expiry. It lets you enter Canada multiple times, but each stay is usually limited to 6 months unless CBSA authorizes otherwise.
Core documents include a passport, photos, proof of funds, travel plan, accommodation details, employment or business proof, ties to India, travel history, and biometrics. If visiting family or friends, include an invitation letter and the host's Canada status proof.
The Super Visa is for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or PRs. It can allow stays of up to 5 years per entry, but requires medical insurance, an invitation with financial support, and host income proof.
Yes. Apply for a Visitor Record before your current status expires, ideally at least 30 days early. A Visitor Record extends your stay inside Canada, but it is not a re-entry visa.
Common reasons include weak home-country ties, unclear travel purpose, limited funds, poor travel history, missing documents, or stronger family ties in Canada than India. You can reapply, but the new application should directly fix the refusal concerns.
A Canada Transit Visa is a free visa for certain travellers passing through a Canadian airport without entering Canada. If you need to leave the transit area, collect baggage, re-check, or stay outside the airport, you may need a full TRV instead.
No. A visitor visa does not authorize work or study in Canada. If you want to work, you generally need a work permit before starting employment. Business visitors can attend meetings or events only within the limits of IRCC's visitor rules.
