Secure a Job Offer and LMIA
Obtain a valid job offer from a Canadian employer. In most cases, your employer must also provide a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to prove a foreign worker is needed.
Gather Required Documents
Prepare your passport, job offer letter, LMIA number (or proof of exemption), proof of work experience (letters and pay slips), and educational credentials.
Apply Online via IRCC
Create an account on the IRCC portal, fill out the work permit application forms (IMM 1295), upload your documents, and pay the CAD 155 application fee.
Provide Biometrics
Visit a VFS Application Centre in India to provide your fingerprints and photo. Fee: CAD 85. You should book your appointment as soon as you receive your instruction letter.
Wait for a Decision
Processing typically takes 8 to 10 weeks for applicants from India. If approved, you will receive a Port of Entry (POE) letter of introduction and a visa foil in your passport.
Travel to Canada
Present your POE letter and job offer to the border officer upon arrival. Your actual work permit will be printed and issued to you at the Canadian airport.
